The online life. Losing a password is a terrible thing to do.
Passwords. We all have many these days. I needed a password to enter blogger to create this posting. I need another password so I can FTP this update to my site.
After a while we stop thinking about our passwords. We just type them. Unfortunately when you have to think about them, sometimes your in trouble. Hell I just was this past Presidents day weekend.
My old palm pilot gave up the ghost. OK I just wanted one where the battery lasted more than 20 minutes between charges.
I brought a new palm TX. It has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. So of course I want to play with these features. Well I go to log into my Yahoo account. There I go I went and thought about it. I could not write it correctly using graffiti.
So I then go ahead and try online. Good old muscle memory. I type it then write it down. Getting old sucks. I had a major brain fart and forgot it. Long enough where I clicked that little link to reset my password.
I enter the verification information and nothing. I try again 30 minutes later, nothing.
Well minor issue. I'm a Yahoo employee reseting his password. That brings it to a whole new level. I called customer suport 10 minutes before the end of the day. While being transfered to 2nd level person the line went dead. Everyone went home.
Lets just leave it at I crawled group websites and mailing lists until I found someone working the weekend that would talk to me. In the end it wasn't until Tuesday afternoon that my account was reactivated. It took an act of god.
Whew, back from the tangent. Online life. I lost access to my email archive, online music, bookmarks, email addresses, IM buddy list and my customized front page. Almost eveything thing I do is through Yahoo. So my online life sucked, for 5 days!
I need to distribute these things better. So my first pass is to compare My Yahoo, Netvibes and Personalized Google. Create a new front page.
I like My Yahoo the best. The fonts and layout are clean. You see how old the articles are. Plus lots of tools and RSS pluggins to add in. Although most news content goes in the middle panel. So it is a couple of screens long.
I like google because they have widget type pluggins. So there is a coolness factor to it. Plus if you don't use the pluggins, it is light enough to use the palm WAP browser to see content.
Netvibes coolness comes more from the news sources. This is not the place you go for a CNN news feed. And it is too new for the standard RSS feed sources to have it in their list so you can add something new with a single click. You need the RSS URL.
So the Jury is still out.
